Types of Massage

Deep Tissue Massage: A Deep Tissue Massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. This is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. The massage movement is slow and the hand pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and/or pain. Where there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (a.k.a. knots) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limit movement and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down the adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure applied across the grain of the muscles. Most people often notice an improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage.

Swedish Massage: A Swedish Massage is the most commonly offered and best-known massage type of massage. Your massage therapist uses massage oils to facilitate smooth, gliding strokes. Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation and ease muscle tension. Your therapist can induce massage pressure from light to firm, usually including deeper work on areas of specific muscle tension. Classic Swedish massage moves also involve kneading, friction, stretching and tapping.

Sports Massage: Sports massage was originally designed for athletes, but is useful for anyone with a chronic pain, injury or range-of-motion issues. Developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training, sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. You don’t have to be an Olympian to gain the benefits from a sports massage. Your massage therapist will concentrate on a specific problem area (sore neck, shoulder, knee) to stimulate the circulation of blood and lymph fluids. Break down adhesions and increase range of motion.

Pre-scheduled appointments are recommended.
